The Power Of A Smile

“You’re never fully dressed without a smile.” – From the musical Annie

Transparent Excited DandyWhen I prepare to go out these days, I try to look my best. I know what you’re thinking…”yeah, who doesn’t?”

When I say, “my best”, I don’t just mean a nice blouse, cute jeans, and make-up. I mean, kind eyes and a friendly smile as well. You may think this is easy peasy to do…

In our busy lives we tend to cast our kind eyes down and give the impression of impatience to do what we need to do and get to where we need to go. Usually our impatience is met with impatience by another.  I admit, sometimes I was among them.

The other day I performed a little social experiment. When I went out to complete some errands I made sure that I stood up straight and every person that came my way I gave them a friendly smile.

What a drastic change!! Men who were in a hurry only a second ago slowed down to hold a door open for me. People in line who usually didn’t look at one another were now smiling and laughing about the crazy weather with me. Workers who were stressed from working long and chaotic hours, seemed to relax for a bit and enjoy a small conversation as they worked. It was amazing what one simple smile could cause.

Now I don’t mean an “I’m trying too hard smile.”

Just a simple smile you would give when greeting a friend. I believe that smile could make anyone feel special and I’m sure make their day in some way. We don’t know what is happening behind the scenes in someone’s life and who knows that one act of kindness could brighten a sad day or even save a life. Smiles are powerful, and wonderful, and should be shared.

Try the experiment for yourself and let me know if you get any different results? If anything, the experiment made my day too!

I’ve shown this video before…but it’s just fun, because it does make me smile and I hope it can make you smile too.

Till my next post, KEEP DREAMING and Smiling!

I like your title, “Believe in a Dream.” It’s important to dream and believe you’ll get there. That’s what I’m doing with my novel.
I also like your never fully dressed without a smile. ;0)
